Contribution of Preoperative Transvaginal Ultrasonography to the Management of Patients with Endometrial Carcinoma

Twenty one patients with endometrial carcinoma diagnosed by fractional diagnostic curettage or endometrial biopsy were studied before surgical operation. Transvaginal ultrasonographic criteria in the determination of myometrial invasion and tumor
grade
were established and endometrial thickness was measured.
The depth of myometrial invasion and tumor grade were compared with the post-operative pathologic diagnosis. In 21 cases(accuracy: 80%), transvaginal ultrasonography correctly predicted the depth of myometrial invasion.
In this study, transvaginal ultrasonography can accurately detect the depth of myometrial invasion and is well suited as a preoperative procedure with tumor grade and endometrial thickness to detect patients with poor prognosis in early stage of
endometrial carcinoma.
